What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that helps the skin stay hydrated and full. As we age, the body gradually loses HA, collagen, and facial volume, which can lead to lines, folds, and hollow areas.

Fillers work by replenishing this lost volume and providing soft, natural-looking enhancement to areas such as the cheeks, lips, chin, and jawline.

At O2 Aesthetics, we carry only the most trusted, FDA-approved HA filler lines, including:

  • Juvéderm® Family: A smooth, versatile family of fillers that hydrates, lifts, and enhances facial features with natural-looking, long-lasting outcomes.

  • Restylane® Family: A precise and adaptable line designed to soften lines, restore volume, and contour facial features with balance and control.

 FAQs

  • Dermal fillers are versatile and can be used on various areas of the face and body to achieve a more youthful appearance. Common treatment areas include:

    • Cheeks (to restore volume and lift sagging skin)

    • Lips (for plumping and definition)

    • Chin and Jawline (for sculpting and definition)

    • Nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth)

    • Marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth down to the chin)

    • Under-eye hollows (tear troughs)

  • Most people experience minimal discomfort during dermal filler injections. Many fillers, particularly HA-based ones, contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) to help ease the pain. A topical numbing cream or ice may also be applied before the procedure to enhance comfort.

  • Dermal filler procedures typically take 30 to 60 minutes as we assess and customize each client’s unique facial features.

  • There is usually minimal to no downtime, and most patients can return to their everyday activities immediately. Minor side effects like swelling or bruising might be present for a few days.

  • One of the key benefits of dermal fillers is that results are often immediate. Full results settle in about 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

  • When administered by a qualified professional, dermal fillers are very safe. Common side effects like redness, swelling, or tenderness are mild and temporary, usually resolving within a few days.

  • While both are injectables used to treat wrinkles, they work differently.

    • Dermal fillers physically plump the skin or add volume to smooth out static lines and folds, even when the face is at rest.

    • Botox is a nerve relaxant that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles (those that appear with movement or expression)
